World-class aircraft paint shops

We operate a network of custom-built, state-of-art aircraft painting facilities around the world. All MAAS Aviation paint shops are operated to OEM quality standards and are EN9100, ISO9001 and ISO14001 certified.

The specification of our ultra-modern facilities reflects our design expertise and include fully climate-controlled paint shops, computerised building management systems and datalogging, high-lux lighting, and fully-lined clean paint shops. Our use of aircraft access docking systems eliminates the risk of damaging aircraft during painting, due to the avoidance of moving equipment.

In January 2021 we opened our newest facility in Kaunas, Lithuania, and in March 2024 we completed two new paint bays at our USA site. We now have thirteen paint shops: three in Hamburg; two in Kaunas; two in Maastricht; one at Fokker Woensdrecht; and five in Mobile, Alabama.

The numbers:

  • Globally, we can paint 580 aircraft a year
  • Maastricht Bay 1 is the largest paint shop in the group with an internal floor size of 2,145m2 (it can accommodate up to A310 or B767 sized aircraft)
  • Our twin-bay Kaunas facility is the size of 7 basketball courts
  • Each of our painting bays will have up to 6 air changes per hour
  • Our light intensity per bay is 700 lux, which is the equivalent of 70 candles per one square foot
  • The average annual paint usage at one of our twin bay paint shops is 40,000 litres (around 265 average bathtubs full)
  • Each aircraft painted requires 5km of masking tape to complete the average job
  • Our paint shops each use paper and plastic sheeting equivalent to the size of 35 football/soccer pitches every year (all this waste material is fully recycled)
