Young designer sees her own livery colours fly!

MAAS presents competition winner with uniquely painted aircraft model.

Dublin/Maastricht – February 25 2022: Launched during MRO Europe back in October 2021, MAAS Aviation’s first ‘Colours in flight’ competition culminated this month with our winner – seven-year-old Nika from Slovenia – receiving her prize; a unique A320 aircraft model painted in her winning livery design.

The competition, which was open to all children aged 15 and under, encouraged young artists to “let your creativity take flight” and design a bold, colourful, and unique aircraft livery.  We were looking for the wow factor – something beautiful to soar across the sky – and we certainly got that with Nika’s vibrant design which our judges commended for her “creative use of colour and application of sparkly effects”.

The task of bringing Nika’s wonderful creation to life was given to our talented team member, John Lynch based at the Maastricht facility, who very much enjoyed working on the project. One of our highly skilled master painters, John not only recreated Nika’s design by hand painting the A320 model, but he also mixed the paints to ensure just the right colours were achieved. Special thanks must also go to Maastricht team members Marlies Geilen and Marta Symonowicz for supplying the glitter, ordering materials, logistics and general support on the project.

The photos are unable to show how much glitter is actually on the aircraft, but we hope you agree that John has done a fantastic job, really doing justice to Nika’s brilliant design.

Nika and her family are very proud of her achievement, Atina (Nika’s Mum) said “Nika was and still is so happy to have won, she is telling everyone about it! She will take the model to school to show all her classmates this week.” Congratulations once again to Nika!

But Nika wasn’t the only child to give us a brilliant design, we received lots of really excellent entries and want to make special mention of our runners up, who all also received certificates and their own MAAS Aviation backpack in acknowledgement of their amazing designs.

Congratulations to our runners up:

  • Sam, age 7 from The Netherlands
  • Rik, age 6 from The Netherlands
  • Henrique, age 3 from Portugal
  • Mika, age 10 from Germany

Thank you and well done to everyone who took part in the competition: all the talented young artists who entered, and the team here at MAAS who helped bring the model to reality. We look forward to running the competition again in the future and hope that we are inspiring some of the next generation of aircraft enthusiasts, designers and painters to let their imagination take flight!
